This bonding is polar to mid-polar Cyano (nitrile) modified silica for reversed phase and normal phase chromatography.

Normal phase applications with low-polarity solvents for many compounds, which can also be separated on unmodified silica. Due to rapid equilibration, it is more suited to gradient separations.

Reversed phase applications, differing in selectivity to C18, C8 or Phenyl modified packings.
